In the (my) beginning there was....
Bobby & Rhiannon
As I write, here in 2022, I've been following, studying and showing up as a vocal improvisor since 2007 when I first decided to work with Rhiannon. I was aware of Bobby McFerrin and a fan to be sure...and maybe this is why my computer found Rhiannon while on a random-ish search for vocal improvisation. Locating Rhiannon's website I decided to begin my Master of Fine Arts by joining her at Hollyhock on Cortes Island, BC.

At the beginning of Hollyhock's '07 week of workshops Rhiannon was asked to give an opening blessing. She sang as she stood, opening up her chest and connecting to what seemed the center of the earth. I was shocked, amazed, dumbfounded and delighted! THIS is what I wanted to do with my music and I've not sung a written lyric or song since.
Total immersion seemed the best way to learn this new craft so I hit the road running!

Goddard College offered me the creative power to write my own courses and follow my Vocal dreams. Since graduating with my MFA in 2010, I've continued to study with Rhiannon which leads me to this beautiful page that you're now reading. Here I can feature my most recent August of 2022 Improv adventure. Bobby McFerrin along with Rhiannon and the many glorious musicians that co-led the first Circlesong School are pictured below and fanned the flame that Covid set to snuff out.
