"There’s something very freeing when adults are given permission to play. To jam and warble and harmonize with other voices initiates a deep connection. Debby brought us into a circle and began with a simple sound improv using our voices to reconfigure the tone of our names. In the safe and trusting space she created, we moved into learning rhythms from each other...in tones that blended...we found our way through harmonies and dissonance. The lesson for me was to learn to trust that dissonance is a valid voice, and I must trust that dissonance finds its way eventually to resolution. That was an important metaphor and life lesson I gained through Debby’s music!"

"Debby may quite possibly be the female Bobby McFerrin of Seattle! Her vocal fireworks, pops, flourishes and zippy-do-da's are not only fun and inventive, but musical as well. Her singing is reminiscent of Jay Clayton, Bobby McFerrin and other true pioneers of vocal improvisation and singing. Debby is a full meal deal vocalist and unafraid to explore her instrument unlike so many other singers in Jazz and beyond."

M.S. Seattle, WA

"I had a great time at Voicestra tonight...met some fantastic, vibrant people with a passion for music."

"...Last night's Soul Circle in Tacoma, led by Debby Watt, is still resonating in my bones. It was vocal improvisation at its best! Thank you for organizing this, Deb, and holding the circle. I will come as often as possible!"

"You teach me very important lessons each time I see you and I want to thank you right now.  It all has to do with how you use your VOICE. And I mean much more than how you 'sing' a song. It's the way you speak openly and carry it through laughter...how you communicate and release emotions without indulging in criticism."

Kelly Doran ~ Broadway Center for the Performing Arts, Tacoma, Washington

"Debby Watt came out on stage in a black dress looking a lot like she did in the seventies with long straight blonde hair; shapely and unaged except for maturity and experience. Four band members, who seemed more than happy to be playing that evening, entered with her through the curtain. She brought her authentic self to her audience. We were amazed, delighted and honored to be there.  She demonstrated her versatility as a vocal artist, able to sing the classics in a very classic way and to create her own style as an artist. I loved this performance. It was truly a gift to those who attended and a wonderful honoring of her life and accomplishments as a singer and human. My 25 years old son, who accompanied me, is a dance performer professionally. Because of Debby’s beautiful and inspiring performance, he has decided to apply to Cornish College of the Arts."

Veronica Schmitt ~ Musician and Author of "The Mythistorical Garden"

"No doubt it will be some time before someone as fresh and beguiling as Debby Watt graces the Cornish jazz scene again! It was, simply put, a stellar performance. The versatility of her work, ran the gamut from a medley of familiar love songs, spontaneous composition, vocal impersonation only to be capped off by her final piece "Stand Down"; full of powerful inspirational poetry about patriotism-gone-awry. Debby demonstrated a remarkable breadth of creative ability and a performance style that was as dexterous as it is entertaining. Her melodic and harmonic intonation was flawless throughout the performance; her voice rose and fell, sustained and percussed, wooed and challenged all quite effortlessly. With warm personable conversation she thread her musical pearls together. Likewise, the ‘Exhalted Trio’ of musicians who accompanied her matched the caliber of this gifted vocalist and the result was sublime. What a gift unleashed in the Pacific Northwest Jazz scene. All I can say is, "Where’s the next gig Debby?!"
